Everyone wants a straighter smile but, for many people, traditional braces just aren’t an option. Whether for aesthetic or commitment reasons, lots of our patients decide against getting braces. For a long time, there wasn’t another option in terms of straightening teeth until 1997 when Zia Chishti patented a little piece of plastic called Invisalign.

Since then, Invisalign has become one of the most popular removable aligners on the market, along with Smile Direct Club. Invisalign offers patients with mild to moderate teeth misalignment a more flexible and stress-free alternative to braces. Although Invisalign cannot do as much heavy lifting as braces (they’re made of plastic after all) they can still dramatically transform smiles. Don’t believe us? Why you should consider Invisalign

For adults who are living busy lives (but still want straighter teeth), Invisalign is undoubtedly the best option. Why? Along with being more aesthetically pleasing, Invisalign became so popular among adults because of its most unique quality: removability. Traditional braces come with a lot of hassle because once a doctor places them, they’re there to stay. People who have braces have to constantly consider what they’re eating and how it will affect their braces. Compare that to Invisalign, where wearers can just pop out their aligners every time they eat. This means nothing (including sticky foods!) is off limits.

Because the aligners are made of a patented thermoplastic material called SmartTrack, they’re flexible but still strong enough to move teeth over time. They fit over the teeth and, unlike braces, appear nearly invisible (hence the name). Patients still get the desired straighter smile without having to worry about broken brackets or painful wire cuts.

How long does it take to straighten your teeth with Invisalign?

Because patients take off their Invisalign aligners, the process does take a bit longer than with traditional braces. For most adult patients, Invisalign treatment takes about a year though many patients start to see major results in three to four months.

Still, like with all orthodontic treatments, these numbers vary. Depending on the severity of your case, it may take more or less than twelve months. Some patients can also end up wearing their Invisalign aligners for a little longer because they don’t keep them on for the recommended daily time (22 hours).

How much does it cost to get Invisalign?

Invisalign can be cheaper or more expensive than traditional braces. Once again, this depends on the severity of your unique case. For mild cases, it can be around $3,000 but for smiles that need extensive straightening, it can be over $8,000. Is Invisalign painful?

When you’re moving teeth around, there’s going to be a little pain. Fortunately, compared to traditional braces, Invisalign wearers experience significantly less pain because removable aligners naturally involve a more gradual change. Most patients report only experiencing some temporary discomfort when wearing their new aligners for the first week.
