Why You Don’t Need to Reschedule Your Cleaning

added on: August 28, 2020

covid response

How are we making Stanley Dentistry safe for patients coming in for regular cleanings?

Our community has been through a lot over the last few months. While many things have changed, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to your wellness. At Stanley Dentistry, we’re taking proactive steps so that our patients have a safe, clean care environment for all their dental needs — including preventive care appointments.

Preventive care includes daily brushing and dental cleanings. While you can handle the brushing part yourself, it’s impossible to replicate a dental cleaning from home. We use state-of-the-art technology and highly trained hygienists to ensure each and every patient leaves our office with a clean, healthy smile. During these unfamiliar times, you may think that skipping a preventive care visit is the best way to ensure your health and safety but that couldn’t be further from the truth.
According to American Dental Association President Chad P. Gehani,
“Dentistry is essential health care because of its role in evaluating, diagnosing, preventing or treating oral diseases, which can affect systemic health.”
You cannot look at overall health without taking oral health into account. When your teeth, gums, or jawbone experience decay, infection, or pain, this means your body’s entire health system is at risk. Your mouth is an entryway to both your digestive and respiratory systems. Dental problems have been linked to health concerns like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and even issues with fertility. It’s important that you maintain your dental health — and thus your overall health — by scheduling regular exams and cleanings.

We’ve always been committed to the highest safety standards but, in the wake of COVID-19, we’ve implemented additional virus-related protocols. Those protocols include:

  • Installing medical-grade air filters in every treatment room and JADE medical-grade air filters in the hygiene rooms and surgical suite. Our medical-grade air filters use ultrafine particulate filters (which can remove microscopic particles like those that cause COVID-19) and UV light to sterilize and turn over the air in a room every five minutes. We are taking extra precautions with our hygiene rooms because wellness visits require the usage of aerosols which, if not properly filtered, can facilitate the spread of COVID-19.
    • Requiring face masks for staff and patients.
    • Checking the temperature of staff and patients at the door.
    • Asking patients COVID-19 screening questions over the phone.
    • Encouraging patients to pre-pay for their appointment to prevent congestion at the front desk.
    • Closing our lobby and asking patients to call our office before entering the building to ensure their room is ready before they walk in.
    • Placing social distancing markers near our front desk.
    • Requiring patients to wash their hands and do a one minute rinse of antiviral mouthwash before the start of their appointment.
    • Installing hand sanitizer stations throughout the office and in the downstairs lobby.
    • Propping open doors to reduce the number of touchable surfaces.
    • Having a professional cleaning crew sanitize the office after every workday.
    • Increasing the amount of PPE our clinical staff is required to wear.
If you have any further questions about our safety procedures, please feel free to give us a call at (919) 460-9665. We look forward to seeing you soon!
