Recently, Drs. Robert and Bobbi Stanley had the pleasure of attending the UNC School of Dentistry White Coat ceremony. Stanley Dentistry intern, Minka Hotic, invited Drs. Stanley to share this momentous occasion as she celebrated completing her first year of dental school. For those not familiar with this event, the Dental White Coat ceremony signifies the end of the first year and its classroom only studies and the beginning of clinical education.
Minka joined the Stanley team in 2014 as she completed the process of applying to dental school. Dr. Bobbi said, “Minka is brilliant and has a promising career in dentistry. We are so honored to be a part of this event and proud of all she has already accomplished. We’re eager to see what the future holds! She will make an amazing dentist!”
The practice has a rich history as a teaching practice with more than a dozen students learning from the dentists, hygienists and dental assistants over Stanley Dentistry’s twenty-year history. The students are able to shadow the staff and observe a variety of procedures not typical of a general dentistry such as implant placement, orthodontics, Temperomandibular joint (TMJ) neuromuscular therapy and many cosmetic procedures . They become familiar with the tools and equipment used and the myriad processes required to maintain a safe working environment.
One of the most notable interns was Dr. Robert Stanley. Dr. Bobbi and her husband started the business in 1995. While Dr. Rob was always a part of the business side of dentistry he decided to leave a successful engineering career to attend dental school and join his wife on the clinical side of the business. “The additional time I was able to spend chair side was invaluable to my education. Dental School provides a great foundation but real world experience helps you take your skills to the next level. We’re excited to be able to help shape the talents and careers of future dental professionals” , said Dr. Rob.
